Tashkent to Isfahan - Our Silk Road Sojourn

May 2019

THE JOURNEY BEGINS

After months in the planning we are about to embark tomorrow on our Tashkent to Isfahan ... or really Tehran ... Silk Road Sojourn. Other ideas were bandied around – Ethiopia (Serena's first option), Mongolia (Janine didn't like the idea of a Yurt as our luxury accommodation), Bhutan ... but when Joanna Lumley showed us her Silk Road adventure we knew that could be us!

We put it out to the many that we were sure would be queuing to come on our very own World Expeditions private tour (four were needed for a quorum) and finally with the Christmas and New Year festivities done Karen and Linda were "on board".

So now we are ticking the final boxes : ✅ Iranian E-visas finally arriving yesterday ✅ Long flowing garments and scarves packed ✅ Cash in hand – no credit or debit cards allowed ✅ Voting for the upcoming federal election done ✅ Smart Traveller itinerary registered ✅ Hep A, Typhoid, Cholera, DTP & flu injections and antibiotics for emergencies ✅ And a blog for all those who love a good read with fab photos (the pressure is on!!!

So join us for three weeks of amazing sights, food, culture, history, images and of course a thoroughly entertaining blog :))

A Japanese Story & Images

March 2018

As we board the 6:40am Saturday 24 March Singapore Airlines flight from Perth to Tokyo via Singapore we are reminded of Bronte’s 8pm (Friday night) departure 2 hours before us from London aboard Asiana Airlines via Seoul. She with glass of red wine in hand wishing she had booked the direct flight with British Airways and us actually enjoying a good coffee (amazing at Perth airport!).

The mayhem of those trying to push into the Perth departure queue to board contrasted vastly with the orderliness of the Singapore to Tokyo leg. Orielle and I had been looking forward to chilling watching binge movies ++ and were not disappointed – me with Breathe & Call Me By Your Name on the first leg followed by The Shape of Water, Paddington 2 and Loving Vincent on the second leg (was soooo hoping we had at least a 6 hour flight to fit them all in … tragic, I know!).

Great Journey - Great Britain

July 2017

So our three week, three generations journey begins (grandparents Heather & Bruce, parents Serena & Kingsley and daughters Orielle and Bronte) with the main aim for us all to see Bronte and experience her London life plus journey to Scotland (having been obsessed with Outlander) and Cornwall to discover the Cornish Miners region of Kingsley's ancestors. I have packed my new toy, a Phantom 4 drone, in the hope of shooting some amazing abstract aerial landscapes.DAY 1 - The Long Haul ... Perth to London

An Invitation to Israel

Those that know me know that I never miss out on once-in-a-lifetime experiences … the Pushcar Camel Festival in Rajasthan, a girls trip to Morocco, seeing Cuba before it changes, hot air ballooning, helicopter rides over the mighty Zambesi, being chased by hippos on the Okavango River, attending a Hindu wedding in Kuala Lumpur…the list does and will continue to go on!

Dark Mofo in Hobart

June 2016

Our adventure to the MONA Dark Mofo festival begins with an early 4.15 am taxi pick up, arriving in Hobart via Melbourne at 3pm. Could have sworn we were in regional Kalgoorlie with our exit from the plane via ramp and an airport about the same size.

Morocco - the spice of life

September 2013

Traveling to Morocco in Northern Africa is not cheap but every penny spent there is totally worth it. The country has a lot to offer – beautiful scenery, tasty food, hospitable people, and a quality and simplicity of life that is rare in our days. These are the things that (in my eyes) make Morocco one of a kind travel experience.
